In this issue: • Over 80,000 members now registered - who’s going to find you first? • All around the world – now members are welcome from every land. • Who-Remembers-Me for sale? Not likely! • Lost in the wilderness? You probably haven’t added any attendances. • Which attendances are leading the way? • We really do want to give you a magnum of Champagne! • Rob Billington signs off Welcome to the Autumn 2003 newsletter from Who-Remembers-Me.com. These quarterly newsletters to registered members are in plain text, to avoid browser and email client incompatibilities. Over 80,000 people now registered – it’s unstoppable! You’ll be as pleased as we are to hear that registration numbers have reached the point where members are starting to find other people through Who-Remembers-Me. So a big ‘Thankyou’ to all who have contacted us with their stories. Please keep them coming – and if you’re happy for us to use them on the site as well we’d be delighted - and you may win a magnum of champagne for letting us! We know it’s going to take time for members to find each other in significant numbers, but with over 80,000 members in just over six months, that’s going to happen sooner rather than later. Be patient, keep spreading the word, and log those attendances from your own life, so other people can find you. ‘Willkommen, bienvenu, welcome’ - Who-Remembers-Me goes global We’d noticed that people from countries other than the UK were already making their way to Who-Remembers-Me and registering, without us doing anything. We therefore brought forward plans for an international roll-out, which took place just two weeks ago. We’ve already had some amazing results, with registrations from 103 different countries since we went ‘global’. They’re not just from English-speaking countries, either, so we thought you’d be interested to hear about them. The world truly is a global village and we aim to be its noticeboard! The top-ten countries with the most people currently registering is: 1. UK 2. Australia 3. USA 4. Canada 5. Singapore 6. New Zealand 7. Malaysia 8. Philippines 9. Ireland 10. Egypt Your memories for sale? ‘Not likely’, says WRM founder Rob Billington! Several of you have e-mailed us, following an article in a national magazine, to ask if we are planning to sell Who-Remembers-Me.com. Rob says: “I would just like to clarify the situation. Who-Remembers-Me.com is definitely not for sale. It is indeed true that we were recently approached by a well-known Internet company, interested in buying the site. We are instead considering several options for bringing in outside investment, which we need in order to realise WRM’s massive potential.” So, watch this space: we’ll keep you up to date with developments via the site and these newsletters. Attendances get you noticed Some of you have yet to add any attendances to your registration. Without these, you can’t be found by anyone searching the places you’ve lived and worked etc. Remember: you need to add at least one attendance to be found. Go on - do it today – you never know where it may lead! Don’t forget to ‘Tell a Friend’ Yes, we’re banging the drum again, but the ‘Tell a Friend’ link on the website is so easy to use. Remember: the more you help us get the word out to as many people as you can – wherever they are, anywhere in the world – the sooner those memories will be jogged. You can ‘copy and paste’ as many email addresses into the box as you like – just make sure there’s a comma, then a space, after each one. Just a few mouse clicks is all it takes to tell everyone you know about Who-Remembers-Me. Attendance league table Schools are still ahead, but Streets and Estates is now closing fast. Get those attendances entered and see what happens to the table in the next issue. 1 Schools 2 Streets and/or Estates 3 Work Places 4 Colleges 5 Pubs 6 Universities 7 Other 8 Places of Worship 9 Sports Teams / Clubs 10 British Army 11 Royal Navy 12 Royal Air Force 13 Working Men’s / Social Clubs 14 Members Clubs 15 Children’s Homes 16 Royal Marines Tell your story and win a bottle of Champagne We still really, really, want to give someone a large bottle of Champagne. So don’t be shy – give us the background to your story and permission to publicise it, and we’ll make you famous (we can change names to protect privacy if you wish). Rob Billington signs off Thanks for reading this latest newsletter. Hopefully you can see that we’re making real progress and that Who-Remembers-Me is growing fast. Stick with us and we’re sure you, and the people who know you, will be revisiting more and more old memories happily for years to come. |
