NOVEMBER NEWSLETTER 2009
blue_tr

Welcome to our November newsletter! It's been a
while since we've put pen to paper, but that's
because we've been busier than ever processing
new membership registrations.

The last time we reported back, we had close to
4.6 million members worldwide. We now have just
over 5.4 million and if our number crunching's
right, it won't be long before we top six million.

Of course, more members means more matches
and we're thrilled to report a significant increase in
the amount of correspondence through the site.
You've certainly been keeping us busy!

We've also been working on a brilliant new look for
the site, which we think you're going to love, as well
as some fantastic new features that will enable
you to do so much more with us.

These changes will be taking place over the next
couple of months, but here's a sneak preview...

MEMBER NOTICE BOARD
gary_t_corner

One of the first new features you'll
see is the new Member Notice Board.
We'll be inviting members to send us
in the names of people they're looking
for, along with a line or two of
information on when and where they
last saw each other. We'll then post
this announcement on the notice
board inviting people to come forward
with any leads. You never know, the
person you're looking for may even
read your message and get in touch.

The notice board will also give
members the opportunity to post details
of any forthcoming school reunions or
gatherings.

Messages will remain on the board for
one or two months after which time
they'll be replaced with new appeals
or announcements. Sound good?
That's not all...

Finally, look out for our new end of year Prize
Draw. You know how important your stories are
to us, well from November onwards, everyone
who writes in with a tale of success through the
site will be entered into our end of year prize draw,
where one lucky person will win £1000 or the
equivalent currency (£1000 worth of Australian
dollars for example, or South African rand). You
can enter as many times as you like (one entry
per story) and the winner will be drawn on New
Year’s Eve. Imagine if you won, what a lovely
way to start the New Year!

So, even if yours isn’t a tale of epic proportions,
please let us know of any successful matches
through the site. You can do this by emailing
sam@who-remembers-me.com or by
responding to our ‘tell us your story’ prompts –
simples!

All stories will be mentioned on our ‘Successful
Stories’ page as usual. Really good stories will
qualify for our monthly ’Star Story’ slot
and delicious food hamper or magnum of
Champagne. You’re not still reading are you?
Get typing!

In addition to the Member Notice Board,
we’ll also be making major changes to the
current profile pages which will enable
members to upload rich content to their
profile such as personal interests, photo
albums and video libraries, in effect,
enabling them to create their own webpage.

Also, the friends list will be more
interactive so that friends can be found
more easily. Watch this space!

RECENT STORIES
blue_tr

Here are some examples of stories we've
featured recently:

Bringing Scotus Academy back together,
pupil by pupil!

And remember Lindsay Wilson from Edinburgh
in the UK? In 2005 he undertook the massive
task of computerising his school's entire
register. Scotus Academy aka Beechwood
House, in Corstorphine Road, Edinburgh, first
opened its doors in 1953 and Lindsay was the
first boy registered. Over the next 25 years that
followed, Beechwood House welcomed a
further 1269 pupils. Sadly in 1978 Scotus
cademy closed its doors as a school for the
last time. Undeterred, Lindsay set about
reuniting as many former pupils as possible
and so far, has been in touch with a massive
800 FPs, thanks in part to Who- Remembers-
Me.com. As each year passes Lindsay holds a
school reunion and each year the number of
FPs attending increases. With a little luck 2009
will be his most successful year yet!

Voortrekkerhoogte High School friends reconnect

Fanie Dreyer from Namibia wrote to say he’s
recently reconnected with an old high school
friend from the late sixties (1967/1968). He and
Frans, now living in New Zealand, used to go
to Voortrekkerhoogte High school together in
Pretoria, South Africa. They were later
transferred to Walfish Bay in Namibia (formerly
South West Africa) and lost contact. Fanie says
he’s very glad to have made contact with Frans
and through him he has been able to catch up
with other friends.

RECENT STORIES

Gulf Air manager back home and back in
touch with old school friends!

Seif Altawdi from Cairo in Egypt was recently
reunited with a number of old school friends
through the site. Seif, who has spent much
of his life living outside of Egypt, working as
an airport manager for Gulf Air in the UK,
Qatar, Bahrain, Thailand, India and
Switzerland, reconnected with former pupils
of Al Orman High School and now, almost 50
years later, he meets with them every month
at the local sports club.

Fellow churchgoers back in contact

Jo Petrovic recently reconnected with fellow
churchgoer Barbara whom she met a
number of years ago at Toowoomba Church
in Australia. Back then she and Barbara
were leaders of a children's club called the
Kings Commandos, and Jo remembers
Barbara kindly loaning her her Kenwood
Mixmaster to make fudge and ice-cream for
fundraising. Sadly, the two ladies lost touch
when Barbara moved but we were able
to bring them back together and now they are
in regular contact once again!

Bowled over by web contact

And then there’s Phil Wilkins in Plymouth in
the UK, who with our help managed to trace
ex Tenpin Bowling buddy and dear friend
Neil Ingram, some 8,000 miles away in
Australia!

A QUICK WORD FROM THE BOSS

ATTENDANCES AND WHY THEY'RE SO IMPORTANT

gary_t_corner

And finally, a quick word from the Big
Boss. Who-Remembers-Me.com is a
free site – there is no membership fee,
no search fee and no hidden costs.
However, we do have to finance the site
somehow; we operate 7 servers and
employ 9 members of staff, who
despite being asked very nicely, simply
refuse to work for free! So, in order to
remain 100% free, we ask you, at
the moment of joining, to agree to us
sending you carefully selected
advertising campaigns. This does
mean you’ll get the odd special offer
in amongst your correspondence from
us, but this is in return for a fantastic
free service.

Ok, that’s all for now! We’ll be back later
in the New Year with more website
news and those competition results!

Please remember we were only able to put these
people back in touch because they had filled in
their ‘attendances’. These are our ‘search-
engine’ institutions: schools, clubs, streets etc.

The more attendances you add, the easier it is for
us to make a match and for you to be found by old
friends. There are 18 different attendance
categories to choose from, as well as a new
name search box, so there really is no excuse!

Whenever a new member adds an attendance
that matches one of yours, we will email you with
a link to their profile. We’ll also send you a
monthly activity report with all your matches at a glance.

So keep on adding! Attendances are what keep
the Who-Remembers-Me community together -
without them we can’t match you with anyone.
