Who Remembers Me takes privacy very seriously, and this page details exactly how the data you enter into Who Remembers Me is handled and stored.

  1. The Data we process

    1. 'Cookies'

      1. We use cookies in order to identify registered users and provide appropriate pages. We do not permit cookies from any third parties on the Site nor do we pass on data from or derived from cookies to third parties except as provided in our privacy policy.

    2. 'Web-bugs'

      1. These are very small invisible images with unique identifying information specific to a particular user. We do not currently use Web-bugs though we may do so in future if this proves useful.

    3. Statistical information

      1. We gather data on visitors to the Site and process it for statistical reasons. Some of this information may relate to you such as how often you use the Site and how you use it. We do this in order to provide an efficient service which is reliable pleasant and helpful to use for all users.

    4. Personal data

      1. Profile:
        Various pieces of different information must be given to sign up to Who Remembers Me. The privacy of this information is detailed here.

        1. Your username and password are not disclosed to any third party other than in accordance with our privacy policy. Your username and account ID are e-mailed to you upon registration.

        2. Your accountholder details are private and are not disclosed on the Site (Except for your profile, which is used to help other people identify you. Ensure you do not put any sensitive data in your profile).

        3. You may alter your details on your profile page.

        4. Your e-mail address remains private even when another Who Remembers Me user chooses to e-mail you. E-mails from other users will be sent through the Who Remembers Me, and you can then choose to respond and give personal details. If you send an e-mail to another user through Who Remembers Me, your e-mail is provided to the person to maintain contact.

        5. Who Remembers Me gives you up to 5 display names which you may use as aliases to attach to the information given to the site (such as schools attended, housing estates lived on). This way, you may protect your current identity while still giving full details of past identities.

      2. Attendances
        Attendances are Who Remembers Me's way of making you easy to find for other people. An attendance consists of a type (street, school, workplace etc.), some keywords, and the years from and to the attendance is applicable.

        1. Attendances are fully searchable by other Who Remembers Me users.

        2. There is no visible link on Who Remembers Me between attendances which use different display names.

      3. Uploaded Pictures
        Who Remembers Me allows you to upload a picture of yourself to the site.

        1. Uploaded pictures are freely distributed to other Who Remembers Me users in your personal profile.

        2. 'Tell a Friend'
          Who Remembers Me allows you to quickly inform a friend about our service.

      4. Names and E-mail addresses disclosed to the 'Tell a Friend' system are not transmitted in any form to any third party servers. The email address is stored purely for analysis reasons, and this data is only available to Who Remembers Me employees or those permitted to see it by the privacy policy.

      5. Support details
        Technical support is available from the Who Remembers Me team.

    Details e-mailed to our support department are disclosed only to other Who Remembers Me support employees

  2. The use and security of your data

    Additionally to the above we protect and use your personal data as follows;

    1. banking details

      These are held exclusively by our banking affiliates and not us.

    2. we will disclose your information to third parties in the following circumstances;

      1. where we are permitted to do so by our privacy policy.

      2. Where breach the terms and conditions of the site and it is necessary to disclose your information to third parties to prevent rectify or remedy such breach.

      3. We retain your data after you have terminated use of this site to enable us to improve our service and in case you choose to rejoin.

    3. We use your information to market our services to you; we do not provide it to third parties for marketing purposes in any circumstances unless you have given us permission to do so.

    4. If permission is granted to send you promotional emails from ourselves and carefully selected 3rd parties in return for free membership to this site, then for you to unsubscribe from these mailings/future mailings you will need to delete your account with us. It is the responsibility of the registrant to delete their own account.

  3. Mail / Anti-Spam policy.

    Who-Remembers-Me.com operates a best practice mail policy whereby the mail we send conforms to the rules, regulations and laws of the receiving party's country. We do not engage in or condone the activity of unsolicited mailing practices (Spam) and indeed strongly oppose this type of activity. Anyone that should have a complaint regarding the mail recieved from Who-Remembers-Me.com should send their complaint to the following address: (abuse@who-remembers-me.com). We will endeavour to answer all complaints within a 24 hour period.

  4. You have certain rights in relation to your data

    1. Data access and rectification

      1. You have the right to a copy of the personal information we store on you. We will rectify any inaccuracies. (in accordance with the Data Protection Act We charge £10 for information requests.) Please address requests to the Data Protection Officer, postmaster@who-remembers-me.com

    2. Purpose of data collection and use

      1. You are entitled to know the information we collect on you its purpose and the manner and extent of processing. This we have outlined above.

      2. You are further entitled to know, and we confirm above, that we collect only such information as is necessary and not excessive to the purposes of the Site.

    3. We collect no sensitive personal information within the meaning of Data Protection Act 1998.

    4. We do not transfer data to jurisdictions with inadequate personal privacy laws. Your data will not be transferred to the United States unless it is to bodies that have adequate personal privacy provisions that accord with the Safe Harbour agreements between the US and the EU.
