Treasured childhood memories come flooding back...
This month’s ‘Star Story’ is a reminder of what our site is all about; fond memories of a treasured childhood brought vividly back to life, not to mention a very happy coincidence indeed…
Angela Holland, originally from Lune Street in New Zealand, explains:
“I joined Who-Remembers-Me.com quite some time ago now, but for the first time in ages spent some time on the website just the other day. I typed in my old school, Oamara South School, and a name I immediately recognised appeared.
Carolyn Cunningham! Carolyn used to live up the hilly end of our street, Lune Street, in Oamaru, New Zealand. We used to play at her house all the time and I remember it always being so full of fun and life.
I was pretty young at the time but I remembered her having other siblings and asked her how they were, only for her to remind me she came from a family of eleven children! No wonder I remember her home as being so animated!
This was such a special time. You see the house I lived in then with my older sisters, holds as many memories as the street itself does. This was back in the days when you knew the people who lived in your street and when parents weren't afraid to send their kids out to play.
These were also the days when children played outside in the fresh air and ran and played until they were happily exhausted.
My sisters and I have been through some tough times since living in Lune Street and for me this time of our lives holds some very special memories, the kind you treasure forever, the kind that keep you going!
The story doesn’t end here though. In the email I sent Carolyn I told her how we all moved to Brisbane, Australia, in 1985 and have been here ever since.
Well guess where Carolyn lives now? Yep, right here in Brisbane so hopefully there will be more to add to this story very soon.
It’s been over 25 years since we last saw each other and I now have a little girl of my own, who I can’t wait to introduce to Carolyn. Hopefully I won’t have to wait much longer!
Thank you for giving me the opportunity to reminisce and find a very dear childhood friend…”
