Blooming Marvellous! Double reunion for Bloemfontein school friends
This month’s STAR STORY comes from a lady we’ve met before. Back in March you may remember Christine Howse from Bloemfontein in South Africa told us how she and her friend Kitty organised a reunion for more than 50 former school friends after reconnecting with just one person through the site.
Well they’ve done it again! In light of the huge success of the first reunion, the Bloemfontein school friends got together in April this year to reminisce and once again, call back the past. Christine explains:
“Our first reunion took place in April last year and it was out of this world!
Just one connection from Who-Remembers-Me.com brought in excess of 50 school friends back together again, from various schools in Bloemfontein - Eunice, Grey College, St Andrews, Brebner, Jim Fouche, Christian Brothers College and Greenhill Convent – you name it they were all there.
It was the most awesome feeling to see school friends whom some of us had not seen in 39 years, since 1968; you would not believe the ooohs and aaahs!
People from as far flung as the UK, the USA and Phuket in Thailand attended this first reunion.
We had such fun reminiscing about the good old days, the glorious 60s!
Back then we used to get together every weekend. We all went to a ‘session’, (a disco) on the Friday evening, met for milkshakes and hot fries on Saturday mornings to plan which movie we would all watch in the afternoon and then on Saturday evenings we made our own party or gate crashed some innocent, unsuspecting person’s party!
We were mostly well behaved but always ended up being the life and soul of the party!
During this time many of us got together with boyfriends and girlfriends and some of us remain married to this day, to our childhood sweethearts.
This was a truly magical reunion but we all felt there had not been enough time to catch up on all the years and so in April this year, armed with photo albums and videos, we organised our second reunion.
Don’t laugh but in the pictures you see, I am the lady in the white top, with the biggest smile. You cannot mistake me for anyone else!
This too was great fun and now we are planning our next reunion in either Cape Town or Durban, South Africa in 2008, and then in 2009 a trip to Phuket might be in order!
Thank you so much WRM for giving us the means to bring so many friends back together under the same roof after so much time apart. It’s been truly wonderful!”
