A family reunited against the odds
And if you thought that was a coincidence, what about Michele’s story?
Two families, living 650km apart in their home country of South Africa, not having spoken to each other in almost twenty years, turn up on the same doorstep nearly 6,000 miles away in the UK…
Who’d have thought it? Well that’s exactly what happened to Michele Goument.
She was contacted through the site by a lady in South Africa asking if there was a chance they could be related as they shared the same surname.
Several emails back and forth established that yes, incredibly they were! Their husbands were cousins who hadn’t seen each other in almost 20 years and in South Africa they would have been living some 650km apart.
But the next twist in the tale was yet to come. When they planned to meet up in the UK, a subsequent email revealed that Michele and her family live in exactly the same town as this lady’s sister, in Sittingbourne, Kent. You could in fact walk the two-mile distance between them!
There has since been a huge family reunion last Christmas, and now there’s another planned for 2008.
