Back in touch with Blackall
Kel Kinsey originally from Blackall, a small western town in Queensland, wrote to say how pleased he was to make contact with one of the residents of the town he was born and raised in.

Apparently Kel left school when he was 14 and his first job was tyre boy at the garage in Blackall.

It was his job, Kel says, to change tyres on cars and run errands for the workers, including going down to the pie shop to get cakes and pies for their ‘smokos’.

The pie man’s name was Ernie Crosby and he always gave Kel a free pie for giving him the big order, apparently everyone in the town knew each other really well.

Then a couple of years’ later Kel’s parents moved house to Brisbane City and Kel lost contact with everyone in Blackall.

It wasn’t until 50 years later, when he joined Who-Remembers-Me, that he heard word. At the time of joining Kel found a Harold Crosby on the site and wondered if there were any connection.

He wrote to Harold and asked him if he knew an Ernie Crosby from Blackall. As it turns out, Harold was Ernie’s son – sadly Ernie had died 7 years previously – but Kel, now 64, is able to reminisce with Harold about the town of Blackall.
