Teachers back in touch after 27 years!
This month’s Star Story comes to us from Australia, from Graeme Gee in Melbourne who with our help, reconnected with Trevor Morse, a dear friend and best man at his first wedding back in 1970.
Graeme, now 63, explains:
“I first met Trevor at school, Bunbury High School, in Perth. We both went on to become teachers and he was my best man at my first wedding in 1970.
Both being teachers we spent a lot of time together during the school holidays, playing basketball and in musical comedy productions.
I taught at primary schools, as did Trevor, but later he became an art teacher at Bunbury Tech College.
When I married for the second time I moved away from Bunbury and eventually lost contact with Trevor.
I decided to teach overseas and in 2002 I went to England where I taught as a supply teacher in a number of different schools in Newbury, Reading and Slough. I also taught at Reading Jail for a while.
During this time I often wondered how Trevor was doing. My sister saw him when he came into the post office in Perth, where she worked, and I did write to him for a while.
The last I heard, he too intended to work overseas but we never did meet up.
In 2004 I returned to Australia, but I didn’t stay for long. Come September I had gone again, this time destination Bangladesh, where I worked as the Headmaster of a local school.
While in Bangladesh I met Julie, who in June 2006 became my third wife.
I had by now returned to Australia. I returned to Perth in October 2005 and shortly after moved with Julie across Australia to Melbourne.
In the short time that I did spend in Perth I didn’t really get a chance to look Trevor up, and even if I had, I wouldn’t have known where to begin.
The last time I saw him was back in 1985, more than 20 years ago. So much had happened since and besides, there was a good chance he was no longer in Australia.
Well, you can imagine my surprise when his name and a message popped up on my WRM account!
I got back to him straight away. I couldn’t wait to catch up on all the years that had gone by and to find out more about his teaching overseas.
It turns out that he did go but is now back in Perth where we grew up.
It may have taken us 27 years but it’s great to be back in touch. Thanks for making this possible!”
