Recognise anyone? Army couples reunited after more than thirty years apart!
What better way to kick off the New Year than with a tale of old friends meeting up for the first time in more than thirty years?
That’s exactly what ex-army couples Gerrie and Geordie (Malcolm) Fawcett and Barbara and Colin Profitt did last year.
You may remember we first brought you their story in 2006, when Gerrie Fawcett wrote to say how she’d managed to contact Colin and Barbara through the site.
Gerrie and her husband Geordie first met Colin and Barbara when stationed in the army together in Mulheim, Germany.
As part of a close-knit unit they soon became the best of friends, but when Gerrie and Geordie moved back to the UK in 1977, the inevitable happened and they lost touch.
Then in August 2006 we were able to bring both couples back together again because they had both listed in their attendances the Mulheim Barracks in Germany and so we had an immediate match.
The rest, as they say, is history!
For the past year or so the emails have been flying back and forth and then in August 2007 Colin and Barbara drove down from where they live in Lancashire, in the UK, to visit Gerrie and Geordie in Salisbury.
It was the first time the four friends had seen each other in over thirty years, an experience which they say was truly magical!
We did of course catch the moment on camera; from left to right we have Colin, Barbara, Gerrie and Geordie, outside Gerrie and Geordie’s local pub in Salisbury.
And we weren’t the only ones! Gerrie and Geordie’s local paper, The Salisbury Journal, also featured the reunion in September!
