Ex-New Zealand servicemen back in contact after 41 years
Peter Marsters from New Zealand has been in touch to say he has recently reconnected with ex-Army mate Tamahau Teepa. Apparently, Peter, who was born on Palmerston Island in the Cook Islands, came to New Zealand in 1963. He joined the New Zealand Army in 1964 and spent 1966 to 1967 at Terrendak Military Camp in Malaysia. During this time he and Tamahau Teepa, who was also serving in the New Zealand Army, became good friends. Towards the end of 1967 Tamahau Teepa went off to Vietnam and Peter returned home to New Zealand. That was the last they saw of each other although Peter often wondered how Tamahau was and how he might be able to get in touch with him. Well, when he registered his details with WRM he got an immediate response from another ex-Army friend, Bruce Wesley, and Bruce knew where Tamahau was. Within an hour Bruce had emailed Peter their friend’s details and within minutes Peter was in touch! Apparently they chatted for 40 minutes! Tamahau still lives in New Zealand in Whakatane, and in November this year, the two ex-servicemen have plans to meet up for the first time in 41 years. Amazing!
